Centuria Taranaki Garden Festival 2024

Taranaki is fast becoming known as the garden capital of New Zealand, nestled between the majestic mountain and the wild west coast are some of New Zealand’s most spectacular private and public gardens.

The Centuria Taranaki Garden Festival, formerly the Rhododendron Festival, was established in 1987.

The national annual ten-day festival is one of the longest-running in the country offering visitors an exclusive opportunity to discover and explore Taranaki- like no other, our unique environment, scenery, and glorious award-winning gardens.

Our festival has countless opportunities to offer, soak up the region’s wealth of gardening knowledge, immerse in the thriving creative community, and enjoy the world-class regional hospitality and attractions.

The garden festival features over 40 gardens around Taranaki, from the established park-like country gardens, sustainable urban food forests, inner-city sub-tropical rainforests, and native sanctuaries. Close to half of our festival gardens are recognised by the New Zealand Gardens Trust as International, National and Regional gardens of significance.

The festival has partnered with Taranaki Sustainable Backyards Trail since 2017, helping celebrate local efforts in sustainability and inspiring everyday people in the community to make lifestyle changes to live more sustainable lives.

The Trail involves individuals, families and community organisations generously opening their ‘backyards’ to the public to inspire creativity, innovation and dedication to living in balance with the environment.

Programmes are also available at all designated ticket outlets, festival gardens and various hospitality retail outlets across the region.
