Floral art, star gazing, lunch-time concerts and a brass band will help celebrate the history of King Edward Park and its newly refurbished Observatory.
Organised by the Friends of Hāwera Parks, festivities at the Observatory include an opening day performance by the Hāwera Brass Band from 1-3pm on Sun 3 Nov, an exhibition by the Hāwera Floral Art group and the chance to learn about Taranaki’s southern sky. Check out the 1905 Cooke refractor telescope, installed at the Observatory in 1953.
There will be free lunchtime concerts from 12.30-1.30pm, 4-8 Nov.
Evening openings subject to weather – check the Hawera Astronomical Society Facebook page for details. See the Friends of Hāwera Parks’ Facebook page for programme details.
