A Remarkable New Plymouth and North Taranaki Garden Tour

Full Day Tour

Join Glyn Church, The Constant Gardener, for a full-day tour of six premier gardens and one nursery in New Plymouth and North Taranaki. Departing from the Festival Hub at 8:30am, Glyn will provide insights into each garden, beginning with Riverlea—a sprawling garden around a restored 120-year-old villa. Highlights include a perennial border, woodland garden, maple walk, and native plant boardwalk to the river.

Next, enjoy morning tea at Waiongana Gardens, a 4ha oasis by the Waiongana River, featuring a sunken garden, rose garden, redwoods, and herbaceous peonies.

Visit Jungle Nurseries, founded by landscape designer Michael Mansvelt, showcasing plants suited for various New Zealand climates.

Lunch will be at Quails Nest, offering scenic views over Waiwhakaiho Valley. Afterward, explore Oak Valley, home to St Mark’s Church and gardens of bridal-gown cream and white.

Discover Over the Rainbow, a hidden gem with structured plantings, tree ferns, bromeliads, and a native bush walk, complemented by a distinctive Roger Walker-designed house.

End your tour at Nikau Grove, featuring lush Nikau Palms, native plants, and exotic flora like strelitzia and orchids, set around a serene swimming pool.

Experience a day of botanical wonder with Glyn Church, delving deep into Taranaki’s finest gardens and landscapes.
